Want to Partner with OVP?
C-U Volunteer Coordinators Work Group
Volunteer Programs currently meets monthly with the volunteer coordinators of Champaign-Urbana nonprofit organizations. Meetings are a great time to network, share best practices and resources, recruit volunteers, and receive guidance on working with campus volunteers.
Please email Volunteer Programs at OVP@illinois.edu to receive information on how to join the group.
Service Education Presentations
During a time of pandemic and increased racial and social injustice, student organizations and student volunteers are seeking information about social issues, their underlying causes, and conscientiously asking why things are the way they are and how to change them as engaged citizens.
Are you a local, statewide, or national organization with a virtual awareness lesson for students? If so, contact Volunteer Programs at OVP@illinois.edu to discuss.
Change Maker Expo Interview
During the pandemic, this virtual platform is our in-person Volunteer Fair. Community organizations can work with us to record an online 15-25-minute interview regarding mission, needs, and service opportunities. Videos rotate annually allowing volunteers to learn about the unique work of groups in the local community and the best ways to get involved.
Contact Volunteer Programs at OVP@illinois.edu to learn how to sign up for Fall interviews.
Sponsor a Service Saturday
The Service Saturday Program encompasses all three levels of service engagement where student interest is best matched with an organization's needs.
- Direct service (one-time project): students arrive on scene to assist with instructional tasks, finishing as much of the opportunity as possible in one day.
- Education and Advocacy: students use short term exposure to organizations to learn about social issues and causes and use information to educate their peers on campus and/or advocate for change.
- On-going learning experience: students with relevant interests and skills spend 1-6 months working with communities on a service project and develop a transition plan for subsequent school years.
If you are an organization in the State of Illinois with a service idea that fits descriptions above, Volunteer Programs is happy to work on a service opportunity that matches students with your organizational or community needs.
Campus & Community Day of Service
In 2019, OVP was asked to provide oversight and coordination of the Campus Community Day of Service (CCDOS). We are looking for campus and community partners to make the event a continued success.
