McKenzie Johnson is Assistant Professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Johnson’s research and teaching focuses on environmental politics, human security, and environmental justice. She is particularly interested in understanding how global environmental governance initiatives shape local opportunities to achieve social and environmental security. Dr. Johnson has conducted interdisciplinary research projects in the United States, South Asia, West Africa, and South America, with her most recent work focused on extractive governance in the United States and environmental peacebuilding in Colombia. Her work has been published in World Development, Global Environmental Politics, International Affairs, Global Environmental Change, Energy Research & Social Science, European Journal of International Relations, Conservation and Society, and Biological Conservation, as well as other journals.
